I was thinking the same thing at first, except I looked at a map and Ft Benning is 80 miles, Robins AFB is 50 miles, and the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base is 40 miles so no current military installation is near Cordele The only other option would be a base that is now closed but Wikipedia entry(which the city government actually copied for its town history) does not list any old bases.
