I haven't collected coins since I was a kid, and when I was a kid, I didn't know anything about numismatics. Now, some 30 years since my coin collection was stolen, I suddenly find myself in possession of something about which I have questions ...and I'd be thrilled if someone could point me in the right direction of factual, trustworthy information. It concerns an 1804 Bowed Liberty Dollar - which I'm almost certain is fake, but again, I know nothing about numismatics, and after spending nearly an hour on Google reading about real Bowed Liberty dollars, fake Bowed Liberty dollars, and Class II and Class III restrikes, I'm more confused now than before I started.
As an aside, the coin collection I had when I was a kid was pretty incredible for someone who knew nothing of coin collecting. I had Rubles, I had Kopecs, I had Third Reich nickels and dimes, I had paper money from Russia, I had Canadian dollars that I heard were discontinued, I had seven-sided coins from places like Aruba - I didn't have a single piece of American money in the entire collection (the whole of which I kept in a Zip-Loc baggie - see? I told you I knew nothing of numismatics). So now that I've TMIed my introduction, is there anyone willing to spare a minute to provide some much-needed guidance, please and thank you?
