Quote: You guys will be eating a TON of popcorn! Good thing we love popcorn! The more I look at the '09-S, the more scared I am it will come back AU. Thad: What do you put the AU-MS odds on the '09 at right now? You could start a contest with 2009 Lincolns as the ante.

The 09S is a brain teaser, part of the reason I sent it in. Honestly, I have not examined that many 09-S's in hand, it's pretty rare in MS. I'm the first to admit my experience on this date/mint is lacking. I looked at this coin for a good 15 minutes, in-hand and with two different power loupes. My conclusion was the obverse strike wasn't that great. The lack of hits and wear on the reverse led me to MS. Not too many AU coins will make it through circulation and stay that clean. Look at just the reverse and try to grade the coin. The light reflections on the wheat head lines are deceiving, I see ZERO wear there in-hand.
The dealer I bought it from called it MS63/64 but then he sold it to me at for an AU58ish price. Now, he always does that for me because I'm one of his favorite customers.....so I didn't suspect it was AU, in hand it looks MS....I could be wrong. No matter what I'll be fine, he's always given me great prices on the high-end Lincolns and he will take them back at selling price, even a couple months later. Bottomline, I like the coin in hand and will probably keep it, it looks MUCH better than my crappy pics.

I would call the 39-D a 67 RD. Man, that's crazy!

Don't have the coins in hand yet, but talked to my dealer and they will be here this week. Mixed feelings for on these for me:
1909S MS-62 1918S AU-58 (NGC chickens, this coin is MS) 1915D Improperly Cleaned (BAH!) 1939D MS-66 RD

Thad, I was pleased to see that they did not hurt the 1909-S, I was afraid it was coming back AU, 62 is a good grade. 66 on the 39-D is a reasonable and fair. I wish I knew what they see on the 15-D,. do you think they were looking at the light coloration on One Cent on the reverse? Now for the 18-S, I will give you AU money for it right now. I think I would box it up and send it to PCGS unless there is something that the pics just don't show. That coins is simply to nice. Jim

Thad...I know the feeling. I sent an 03 IHC, 14D LWC, & a 43S LWC that all in my opinion were AU55 through MS66. All came back improperly cleaned. I have no idea what they saw. I looked at them under 20X loop and saw no hair lines or any signs of cleaning. Just makes ya wonder?

Yea, I was happy with the 1909-S, I too feared AU. I came out great on that, I paid high AU money for it. I think they could have gone 67 on the 39D, I'm telling you, in hand that is about as flawless as they come. The 18-S is robbery, these are tough to grade and I'm sure they couldn't decide so they went conservative. I will probably try PCGS next as I'm pretty mad.

I thought I'd roll the $25 dice and give it a shot. They have failed to grade any colorful Lincolns I've sent in....this will be the last one I submit to NGC.
