Please try your hand at grading this 1909S Lincoln, as I have profoundly little experience with cents. Once graded, how about taking a stab at Fair Market Value? I haven't yet really started collecting Lincolns, but figure with the 100 year anniversary and all..... Thanks in advance for your help and wise guidance. (I believe you can click the image to enlarge it. Otherwise, my advanced apologies for the smallish picture. The full sized was too large to post.)

I'll give this first shot; EF-45. Nice coin, by the way!

Yes I say choice XF BN as well, value? PCGS today for this is about $250.00 in XF40. I'd give it a XF45BN and add $25.00 easy as it is a nice looking eye catcher as well.

Thanks all. It's nice to see a consensus, at least so far. Do you think it's worth sending to a TPG? Also, as I said, I am new to the Lincoln cents. What would keep it from an AU grade? It seems to have great detail on the obverse in the hair, tie, vest and separation of the jaw and cheekbone. On the reverse, the wheat lines are fully separated and distinct, with some detail remaining in the rest of the wheat stalks. So, what am I missing? Thanks once again.

Quote:Do you think it's worth sending to a TPG? if it was my coin I would get it graded it is one of the better dates in the popular lincoln series and it is in pretty good shape. so the value should go up as time goes by in my opinion.

Very sweet coin fmtaxguy. I agree it's EF but with the good strike and eye appeal I'd value it at AU50 which would be about $250 retail. TPG one that one is a matter of preference. I'd probably leave it raw.

Could someone point out to me the particulars as to what is preventing this coin from being a true AU? It would assist in my education greatly. Thanks.

According to ANA standards, the hair above the ear on the obverse does not show wear in AU. I use my ANA Grading Standards book a lot. It's a learning tool everyone should have.

EF40, maybe 45. CDN ask $220. Nice sharp strike!

Yeah I love this one, very nice on the eyes. My book would grade it EF45 all day. Send it off to a TPG and if you do post your results.
