My recent post about my meager Washington quarter collection got me to thinking about the numismatic merits of this coin. To me, it's not a terribly interesting series: no real keys (save 1932) and the design itself is pretty bland. Ever since 1999, the reverse has been a revolving door of designs honoring the states, national parks... well, you know the drill. While all these designs are interesting to a degree, at some point they became tiresome to me. It's as if poor George had become simply an anchor for a series of gimmicks the mint had thought up. It's gotten to the point that I miss that bland eagle reverse! Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox and get to my point. I'm sure there are many collectors who enjoy this series more than I do. Since I know I'll never have all of them myself, I'd love to see photos of someone's complete collection. Anyone? Edited by jpsned 02/06/2023 07:15 am

I don't have a collection of quarters (or much really) but I do have an unpopular quarter opinion: the classic Washington design used from 1932-1998 (especially pre-"spaghettification" of Washington's hair that became evident in the mid-90s) is my favorite American quarter design. I've long said we need to retire all the endless billion backs series and bring the eagle back! The State Quarters were a gimmick and everything else since then has just grown increasingly tiresome with time; fewer and fewer laypeople are collecting them, and even collectors are starting to agree it's time to give it a rest.

I'm on record--hoping for a 50 state + Territories quarter series devoted to the most quirky yet iconic roadside attraction in each, For example, Montana's Penguin Colossus at Cut Bank.

50 States, America the Beautiful, American Women... I like all of the rotating reverse designs of the past 24 years! They add just the right amount of difficulty to the search, for a somewhat casual collector like myself. The designs have been interesting and often beautiful. When I track down the remaining three America the Beautiful issues I'm still missing, it will be a happy day. I guess I just like gimmicks. :)

All of my modern "gimmicky backed" quarters sit in a large vintage Anchor Hocking ashtray and I pull from them to pay for a mouse once a week to feed my snake.
I used to collect them but its just gotten to be too much and I'm not thrilled with many of the designs, so I ended that endeavor. I much prefer the eagle back.

@numismax it's nice to see somebody else shares my opinion! I thought there'd be more of us on a forum like this.

Since I maintain my quarter collection through roll searching, I have no problem holding onto MS grade examples of any quarter I find--always looking to upgrade as I find things. It's effortless, and only costs me 25 cents for each piece I decide to keep. I spend more on chocolate covered donuts.

Loved the ATB series but was ready for it to be done, it started off great but when they started minting 700 mil- 1 billion of each it wasnt fun anymore

As a collector from down under, I quite like the U.S. quarters. I have nearly a complete collection since 1999, but prior to that I still have lots of holes to fill. This is my favourite...
