Milk spots on bullion has been an issue for a long time. Canada mint seems to have solved the problem with their Mintshield technology. I have 62 silver Britannia, never had one with milk spots until today. I ordered ten 2023 silver Britannia with King Charles III, nine are good, one is bad. Some people have tried ammonia, jewelry polish, jewelry cloth, acetone, soft eraser, etc. There's YouTube videos about it. Cloths and erasers cause light scratches, the chemicals I've tried on generic rounds did not work. I'm going to contact the seller Monday, though it's not the dealer's fault. Milk spots sure ruin the look and probably reduces any premium a bullion coin might have. I doubt I'll buy any more silver Britannia. Edited by livingwater 02/11/2023 4:36 pm

I buy Silver Britannia's every year and have never received any with the milk spots on them. I have on other coins but, not on the Britannia's. Oftentimes I do find out that the close-up spots are just dust. I also find that my Air-Tites have a speck or so of dust inside them.
That said, yes you should return the milk spotted coin. I don't use anything to remove the occasional spots. I sure hope that my Charles Britannia doesn't have spots on it. It should be here anytime. My 2023 QEII came in just perfect.
I feel for you livingwater! So, you found one coin with milk spots and now you won't buy anymore Britannias? Oh, don't do that, they're lovely coins!

I prefer the 2018 and later Maple Leafs #1 so far as they have mintshield that seem to work against milk spotting. While milk spots seems to be removed using Magic Eraser/melamine sponges for basic bullion upkeep with no added numismatic value or possibly a pan lined with aluminum foil and baking soda then pour boiling water on it is known it will clean off tarnish and may work for the milk spots. I havent had any time to see and if possible to do for the numismatic coins in some manner while not creating any damage.but likely will only be usable for bullion and tarnished collectible rounds that wont be graded I imagine.

There is no way to remove "milk spots" without damaging the coin. John1

Nothing says poor workmanship quite like wrinkles in the duct tape.

I know how you feel! I bought one new Britannia from a dealer and just received it yesterday. It has two large milk spots on the obverse, similar to yours, and also on the reverse. I was excited to get it, but I am quite disappointed. I was thinking about returning it to the dealer, but I paid for shipping and will have to pay for return shipping, and I don't want to get hit with any kind of restocking fee - so it doesn't pay to return it. I'll hang on to it. It's a beautiful coin otherwise. Think a product a like E-z-est or some other dip could safely remove it?

pfroz, welcome to CCF! I don't know about E-z-est, never used it. There are some YouTube videos about removing milk spots including a very soft eraser but that will put light scratches on a coin, maybe look less bad than a milk spot. I bought my King Britannia on ebay with PayPal. Though the seller said they did not accept returns I sent them pics and got to exchange it for a better one. They'd rather have a happy customer than me leaving negative feedback I assume.

Thank you!! I was able to send mine back to the dealer for an exchange without paying for the return shipping. So, hopefully the one I get back will be nice and spotless!
