My girlfriend brought this coin home. I don't really collect anything not U.S., but I took a quick look out of habit and saw some doubling on the date. Is this just shelf doubling? Are foreign coins made the same way us U.S. coins and subject to the same kind of variations? I know my pictures need work, but best I can do for the moment. More detailed shots of the date would help. It might just be Machine Doubling (damage), but there's something interesting here.

Ya, my biggest problem right now is lack of good equipment, I shot these through a loop.

What caught my eye was the doubling on the inside of the 9s. Nice shot through a loupe! From the photo, I cannot tell if those doubled areas are flat "shelf-like", or raised/rounded. If they are raised, rounded at a similar height to the rest, it could be a doubled die...

That's what I'll have to determine I guess.
The left of the eight and first nine definitely look flat, but everything else doesn't. Especially the one and inside the nines like you said. The top of the one and inside of the eight look similar in height without a doubt. The height is so similar inside the eight, you can hardly see the doubling, but the extra thickness gives it away.
Soon as I can get a better look with a scope I'll post back here on what I find.
Oh, one more thing, do coins from the Bahamas have the reverse rotated like U.S. coins ( so that if I flip the coin head over heels the image would still be right side up)? Or do they have the opposite?
Thanks for the reply.

I would say that's extreme Machine Doubling I don't see any indications of notching and the images don't look raised and they look shelf like in appearance JAZEC

Well, not what one wants to hear of course, but you are probably right and your honest opinion is appreciated.
Thank you all for your replies.

I'd still like to see the top of that "1" digit under a scope. The numerals involved, the 'font' or style of the numerals, and the direction of the doubling on that coin combine to create a situation where notching may not be present. Notches on a DD are normally present on corners -- the sharper the better. Given the circumstances, the only place I would expect to find the presence of a notch on this Bahamas coin is at the top of the 1. But the photos are fuzzy and the lighting is wrong for that location. It may very well be MD, but based on what I see in the photos, I can't be certain that it is not a DD.

Well, I will definitely not dismiss it just yet then. I am working on getting a scope, then will get some better pics. I'll post back here on the subject soon. Thanks again for your replies.
