2022 D Nickel Found this in a fresh roll of all Shiney newly minted 2022 D nickels. This was in a box of all new nickels. Not a mixed box or roll. This particular one was in the middle of a roll and the only one of its kind for the box. This nickel has luster. Uncleaned. Still has cartwheel effect. I've scooped it to find no doubling machine or otherwise. No signs of damage to details overall. The last image is to compare to a normal nickel I'm not well versed with annealing issues or what this might be. Any help is appreciated please and thank you. Also wondering if there is any value Edited by legacyofcoins 02/12/2023 9:48 pm

Are the pictures okay or do I need to provide higher quality? Just difficult when you have to compress the image in order to upload

Glare is hiding what you seeing on your images. Tips on reducing glare on your images. http://goccf.com/t/393517If you can reduce glare, it might show us more. But the coin looks altered a bit. If the weight is 5 grams, then the planchet is normal. But rub on a coin reduces value as it is damage to the coin.

If you need to rotate the images to get the lighting correct, always rotate them back to normal before you post them.

I hope this image is better. Not sure what happened in all the original ones.

that's a better pic, it looks like an improper annealing candidate, am I seeing some copper that has migrated to the surface?

With the original images, it is the auto rotation function of your phone. holding it level to shoot down can cause the phone sensor to rotate. There usually a small icon in your camera app that will tell you what the orientation will be when you take a picture. As for your coin: Can you get a better image of the edge (not so close) and better lighting please.
edit, forgot to mention that your last image is a very good one and that your coin looks like an annealing issue.

This is the best I'm able to get currently. Hopefully this helps. Life is crazy busy so finding time can be difficult sorry for the delay. As far as copper coming through.... It's mostly dark Grey charcoals etc. The subtle hints of copper color look more like oxides or something with a brownish hue but there isn't much of it

I was finally able to find more info on annealing and comparisons. Looks like the coin I have is an improper annealing. It's cool/interesting. But from what I can determine carries next to no premium. Maybe $1-$5 at best for it. Not like I expected I found something that rare. Either way a cool find being the only one in an entire box of 2000 newly minted nickels.
