I am learning how to spot and identify errors. This 1968-D Cent came from an unopened Mint roll that I opened last week.

I'm beginning to understand the Die Markers used. I used Variety Vista as reference.
The coin is very shiny and to me more difficult to photograph.

Is this cent a DDO-001, 1-O-II-E? There are multiple stages and versions to choose from.
I believe this cent matches the attribution # I've mentioned.

This is my first attempt at this so any help or critique is welcome.

A doubled die is not an error,it is a variety. I do not think yours is a DDO. If I remember right, it is master die doubling. Let's wait for a pro or two to chime in.

The 1968-D DDO-001, 1-O-II-E mint mark location suggest no match. Thanks, Doug.

Ah yes I see that now. Thanks for pointing that out guys. It seems to have all the other die markers.
The MM is not close enough to the date.

Tacc, One thing to remember you have to have the DD, or RPM first, then the markers come into play.

Understood Cujohn. The doubling on my coin on "IN GOD WE TRUST" seemed to match the example shown in Variety Vista.
But indeed the date on my coin is further south. If that ends the possibilty of the DDO- 001 then so be it.
Good learning experience for me.

Yes, that does end it as far as DDO-001 is concerned, but... The story here is that this doubling, which is quite strong, is from a doubled working hub. That means the same doubling is on a lot of different dies. In fact, pretty much all of the VarietyVista listed doubled dies for that year are just the same thing. It remains unclear why they have never been removed, but there they are.

Extremely good photos by the way, and looking forward to seeing your future finds.

Thanks for the further clarification "tropical". This is all very new to me but also very interesting!
Perhaps 1968-D was not a good random year to choose as beginning. I do have quite a few other
coins/years to search.

1968-D isn't such a bad year, as there is a great DDR worth rather a lot in top grade as well as a fairly nice RPM.
