"Eight" has the same sound as "Getting Rich or development" in Chinese. So 888 is to get very, very rich or to loop forward!!

Well here is my contribution..."Best" coin can be determined many ways, best condition, best price, highest value, or sentimental reasons as some have noted above; having been given a coin by someone.

Here is my "best" coin in terms of the one most dear to me: (sorry for the poor pics, digital camera doesn't have a macro feature and image is blurred from holding it and camera near a light source)

1937 French Indo-China 20 Centime, I have two of them, one is a 1939. story behind the coin: I was on a Search and Destroy mission in Quang-Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division in 1967 when we (my platoon) came upon a bombed out building overgrown in jungle. It looked like an old monastery bombed by the French. One of my men spotted a small artillery cannister wedged in the wall. Since it was out of place we checked it or booby-traps and removed it. Inside were about 25 or so of these coins. Each man got two. It is uncirculated, silver. Has a lot of memories attached to it and reminds of some guys I left behind so it (and its cousin) will never be up for sale.

PS It is also my Avatar

This may not be my most valuable piece but it is my absolute favorite and I would never sell it. This is an 1830 Capped Bust 50 Cent Piece and was acquired in an ironic manner. I was purchasing a collection from a woman who became fidgety and impatient as I picked out and itemized pieces from a box of coins. As I was about half way through, she picked up the box and shook the rest of the contents and very impatiently said give me 15 dollars for the rest. I agreed and found this at the bottom of the box of culls!

This is "Black Diamond" An exceptional entry of the 1913 S Type II Buffalo nickel that roamed the forum earlier in 2008 in the Herding Group but was beat out of the competition by an Australian Shepherd Dog at Westminster. Yes I have it here, should have it graded.

It requires special care, difficult to groom and clean up after is not particularly good with children and likes the outdoors. Nearly hunted to extinction where only about 1,000 remained toward the end of the 19 th century it has been on the rebound.
There are over a quarter million in existence today.
A very small percentage born in 1913 with the Brand Iron "S" on the rear remain in this condition today.

OK, here is my last post. She is a 1878 P 7/5 TF Variety, 2nd Rev., Long Nock VAM 38. This Morgan is labeled as the largest shift of this kind. I also picked this up at auction. She is 131 yrs. of age. This coin has some natural toning. She is a favorite and was the first VAM I found.

Until then The contest is closed. If wd does not get this by 8:30 I will have to announce the winner. Until then let the popcorn rule.______________________________________
