Wasn't sure what caused this on the reverse side since it only goes part way up. I do see some light discoloration in the upper half also. Does this coin have any value? I would think the discoloration would greatly reduce its price. Any ideas on grading? Thanx in advance for any answers.

Appears to have tarnish and environmental factors going on like the black dirty I'll call it around the rim. Than again on back too it has a straight line going right across it like it was sitting in a display for a long time which will turn color than some tried to clean it at another date and time. Why I say this is, line as if it was sitting in a display is not visible on front of counbbut it has a look like it has an improper cleaning not professionally. This is only my personal opinion from viewing so many of them and looking at it on here. If you feel otherwise/stronger take to a professional. And I'm sure some one here has more experience than me. good luck

I struggled so I pulled them to a darker area so u could see detail. My dad worked in a bank from 1964 to 1986. Mom thinks he got this in the late 60's. As always it got put in the closet and there it stayed until his passing 3 years ago. It has beautiful luster on the front. I have full rolls of Pennie's to go threw also from these dates that he had. 1955 59 59D 60D 61D 62D 64 64D 65 66 67 68

Reno911 what you said about sitting in a display case makes sense to me.

I would take it to a local, trusted dealer and have them take a hands-on look at it. It's a lovely coin regardless of the cleaning scratches IMO. Something doesn't ring true to me though. Maybe it's just the color of your photos. Missing the AW could increase it's value as long as it wasn't manually removed. Interesting coin!

looks like it was partially covered - the exposed portion has toned out.

Here is what I know about its history starting in the mid to late 60's. Dad found it while working at the bank, mom thinks she remembers (she is 90..but sharp) the purple color on it then. Dad put the coin in one of the little manila/yellowish bank envelopes and there it remained until about a year ago, when mom gave me all of dads coins and paper money to go through. Would the paper from the envelope affect coins? There are many more coins in these types of envelopes. Should I remove them from there? I haven't got the $5 gold coin out yet. Soon
