I was wondering what kind of storage or filing system you have? I'm currently going through a boatload of coins sorting them out between what I believe are errors or what not; now I'm speaking in layman terms here mint marks, no mint marks, year, metals worthiness, Penny nickels, dimes, collectibles, foreign coins, silver etc .and I'm tagging them and putting them in bags. Now they just seem to be getting a little messy right now and I was wondering if I should buy a file system or something to put them in or a bunch of Little storage boxes like the old card catalog systems you know with all those little drawers in the library. I know it's late I'm tired and I have a huge run on sentence. What do you have? and if you really didn't collect and you inherited coins how are you sorting everything out. Any suggestions would be helpful I'm becoming a little overwhelmed. Eventually I'd like to take them and get them and get them appraised. My father had a keen since keeping one that are very much different I'll put it that way but he also purchase collectibles which are already in their boxes which is fine it's the loose ones in the roles because there's a lot of them. I love coins and I want to do my father's legacy Justice

Purchase some 2x2's and slide boxes. The 2x2's meant for coins are housed perfectly in a 2" box for slides. You can find them on ebay, I found two boxes at a coin shop.

Or if you want something simpler, you can use flips in a binder with pages that hold 2x2's.

That is how I organize my semi-common stuff. Bulk is held in rolls and nice coins are in airtite capsules and tubes. No slabs.

Thank you.
I just saw this which looks pretty cool a 84 Pieces 46 mm Coin Capsules, with Foam Gasket and Plastic Storage Organizer Box, Coins Holder.

And I hear and read so much here and there that certain things damage coins if they're stored a certain way for a certain period of time or if it's a particular type of material that they're stored in, or if it's stored in light blah blah blah.
The roles I just cracked open a couple tonight which I posted about I believe that the paper and due to how they were just the word I'd say cause the little damage if possible mildew or staining due to the packaging and storage you know I'm maybe not maybe it could have been the coins themselves I'm not a professional so I don't know.

Mylar flips in 20 pocket archival quality album pages.
Collection describes coinage history of all major World cultures, since the beginning of coinage 2600 years ago.

Each flip has all information relating the the coin
-price paid, and date when acquired,
-brief description of the coin, with relevant catalog numbers.
Collection arranged in two sub parts:
the most valuable coins are stored in a small album in date order, in a small safe,
The rest of the collection is a working reference collection also in date order, in 8 albums of about 160 coins each.

I also have a parallel supporting photo file system of all significantly valuable coins

Started the collection about 45 years ago with a Roman gold aureus. It is my intention to continue to grow the collection, until I die.

No supporting spreadsheet needed, with such a simple system of coinage description, history in date order, and an appropriate method of storage and display.

Not much different from what the British Museum uses, except that they store their coins with descriptive tickets in trays in cabinets.
The British Museum also has a supporting and very extensive data file and digital photo system needed for quick reference and to eliminate the need to handle particular coins unless necessary.
