Ok, I've talked about these coins. Ok, I found the penny today and this is the first mention of it. But check it out.

Let me explain this photo set. The Franklin is a coin I'm proud of, the photos do not do it justice. Its not gold tinted at all, bad lighting.

The penny is an interesting find I found today. A solid "D" mint mark. Let me know if there is anything significant about this. I think its pretty neat.

The ASE is a proof, complete with sealed container, little blue box, and document of authenticity. And die cracks too? I considered returning it after discovering the flaws, but then changed my mind. Its not like it cost me a grand and a half......and I thought it might be an interesting piece since it is a proof. Let me know what you think....

So finally, long promised photos. And now that I have a means of taking semi-decent photos...we can all expect more.

We all love photos.

huh... I have that "die crack" or "gouges" on Lib's shoulder. I wonder how that happened...

Mine is also in the mint airtite-thingy...

The Franklin looks fairly nice. The 79 D cent is the result of a chipped die and does not have any special premium value. The ASE is NOT a proof, just a regular bullion coin that shows a strong contact mark from the edge of another eagle. (If the marks are raised then they are probably die chips as well.) It is definitely not a die crack.

Not a proof? I was under the impression that it was. It came sealed in an airtight container with the blue box and certificate of authenticity.

Ok, if this coin isn't a proof. What is?

Perhaps I need some further education in these matters, after all, I am a rather new collector, and may still be a little green.

Never mind. I've found my own answer. Its not a proof.

It seems that I purchased a fine uncirculated ASE in special clothing. I'm sure my children will love them one day when they inherit it. A fine example, minus the die chips, of a ASE.

You learn something everyday.

Thank you Conder101 for prompting me to do a little more homework. I do appreciate good honest straight-talk. It is helping me be a wiser collector. Thank you

Modern proofs have heavily frosted devices and mirrored fields. This contrast is called deep cameo. I agree that yours is an uncirculated version but the die chips/dents/whatever make it interesting, you do not usually see that type of thing on Eagles but it is quite common on business strike coins for circulation.

Also, that Franklin is very nice I could see it grading MS65
