Hi All, Was just looking over my recent acquisition of press your own coins from the RAM that I recently visited in Canberra. The coins from Press "1" show a slight mis-strike - ie the words on the left hand side around the rim of the reverse appear to be more 'bulbous' than the flatter font on the right. As the coins on Press "2" show consistent font results on the coins, the ones from Press "1" appear to be poorly struck. I am unable to upload an image as my scanner is not working, but I was wondering if anyone else has found a similar problem or am I just going nuts? Thanks. CM.

We've got at least 1 person who will be able to examine his 2009 MYO Coins to see if what you describe is evident on his coins. I reckon he'll be posting within a couple days, so keep checking for a reply. I live in Brisbane & don't have any 2009 MYO's yet.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

Thanks Nancy,
I will definately keep an eye out for the post. Ill be intrigued to see what they can find out about a coin that you can no longer press (as the presses have been closed down now in anticipation of brand new presses starting up in the mints new visitor centre (somewhere other than within the mint building - at least from what I understand)).
Anyway, thanks again. I look forward to shedding some light on whether I'm crazy or not.
Coinmad.
P.s. I hope the cyclone is not causing you probs up there in QLD.

Yes, valid point. I shouldve said 'crazier than usual'. Your wife too huh? Oh well at least mine, although she thinks I'm an expensive nutcase, is happy for me to do something that keeps me from getting under her feet..... Cheers. CM.

Hi there, I have been reading else where that the reeding is also in different positions from press one to press two. I do have both but when I returned home I have put them in a very safe place. Thats right , so safe I've got no idea where I put them. I am half way there as I found the covers today. Hopefully the coins tomorrow.

Thanks for the update. It sounds like your safe system works alot like mine does. As much as I'd like to see these things rise in value, hopefully it wont be soon otherwise I spend a good couple of frantic days (or weeks) tearing apart the place as I try to find them! I look forward to hearing about the reeding.... sounds very interesting. Cheers. CM

Coinmad,
I can see what you are talking about with the reverse text being rounded or flat. I checked coins from Press 1 and Press 2 and found coins from Press 1 to have end part of AUSTRALIAN, have CITIZENSHIP and DOLLAR as flat text, while those from Press 2 may have a few letters here and there flat with majority rounded or mounded.
This could be from wear of the dies where they are wearing unevenly. Perhaps some experts may have a different slant on cause.
As for reeding, looking from obverse at word AUSTRALIA, all my 6 Press 1 coins have reeding starting at S and running to start of second A. All 6 coins from Press 2 have reeding starting at middle of U and running to start of R.
Now I also have a few of the Brisbane Coin Fair February 2009 overprinted folder issue. These coins should have come from the Main Press/es. The reverse text is ALL flat. The reeding starts middle of first A and runs to middle of T of AUSTRALIA on obverse. The other unique feature (well I don't know it it unique to this issue), the obverse and reverse have a matte appearance rather than brilliant shiney appearance of the MYOs.
I would definately say they are another variety for the C mintmark coins.

Hi Wayne, Thanks for the feedback on the coins, I'm stoked that they could well be a different version of the C mintmark. I wonder if it something that the mint has fixed with the new presses that are opening soon/have opened? Anyway, I still havent found my coins, but will definately look for them now to examine them again. Epecially to look at the reeding which is something I didnt look closely at the first time (as I was way too focussed on the font issues...ooops ). Thanks again. Cheers! CM
