I would agree with a VF details grade. The surfaces look a bit rough which suggests the coin has suffered some corrosion. Many large cents have this sort of problem. Whenever possible you should seek out specimens that have smooth, original surfaces.

It is hard to tell in the pic but it is fairly smooth- I have had it out of the 2x2 to put it in a new one (it had been in the old one a very long time) Maybe it is not as smooth as its suppose to be- don't know what that would be- but it didn't feel like it was in that bad of shape when I was lookin at it. What do I need to look for? I thought it was in decent shape and looked like the color was good - I have seen a few others on here that were like black/brown in color from corrsion.

to CCF.
What you need to observe is the amount of detail remaining on the specimen. If you are new, a good investment may be a
'Photograding' book. It shows pictures of coins versus grade. The one I have covers all/most US only. I use mine all the time for circulated specimens.
