John, Very Cool Errors.... I found Mine, One of them , to be EXACTLY as Yours, Only My Medal has Extreme Pressure Edge gouges, like Yours Only Mine are ALL around the Perimeter, Heavy, Gouges and the Capsule has Gouges on it's inside edges from the Out of Center or Mis Aligned Die that left a Raised edge on the Medals sides, Hence, Capsule gouges and capsule arrived partially opened and Will Not shut... Very Excited about these medals...... Enjoy Eaglebub7, John, Yours truly and ?

These are medals - so a side to side flip is required to view both sides up right. A coin flip is top to bottom for a proper view of both sides.

John, My Finning or Raised Rims edge starts @ the Marine's helmetlaying cover for the other two and goes around to just passed the word RIFLEMEN. . I am thrilled to say, My Second Medal exhibits More of the Same Here Very Lop sided medal that will NOT come out easily from it's nesting Capsule It was forced into it....

Tells me that These are out there....... I ordered multiples for gifts, Now What !!!!! Can We order more of these ? Exacly on the side to side Flip.

I also have a smaller fin on the reverse opposite the big one on the obverse.
the medal is also slightly struck off center.

So I wonder - only 10,000 of these were supposedly struck - so was there only one die pair? only one set-up?

Do you think these are Mis-Aligned Die Errors or Just the Gap between the collar and the Die, as the die wears, The Extreme pressure rises up Vertically to form a fin.... I am leaning from the in Hand inspection, MAD.

I saw your How many die pairs thoughts. Being the Examples seen have Extreme pressure issues, Hard to tell, I will say While the devices are Crisp, At least this One pair was used.... Unless Forensics Later show Otherwise....... While I am Looking Forward to Other members chiming in, I am Thrilled they allowed these to Get Out of the Mint....

John, Great Picture. My Examples are like yours, Mine starts before Yours and goes Just Past where Yours Highlights.
So, What does this say to us, the problem went unseen for at least 4 medals, How fast do you think medals are struck, How many times were the Medals struck, More Than Twice is my call, maybe more.
The die and or collar Either are Wearing Quickly and Or the Die (s) were Mis-Aligned . The strikes on the medals I have are Strong. Was the Pressure Too much and We see the resultant factor as a Vertical Fin? I believe more going on Here. Waiting for Others to chime in...

Happy to get this convo and excitement going lol. I am totally thrilled to have found this and shared it. As mentioned, my fin on the obverse begins @ roughly K11 and runs to roughly K3, similar to Dearborn's. The fin on the reverse, runs from K1130 to K1 and is not nearly as pronounced. I wonder if a TPG would identify this on a label?

So you have the reverse fin too. That's great. My reverse fin starts and stops the same as yours Eagle7.

Oh yes, and they do note it on the label! @ Dearborn, I notice your edge looks very similar to mine also. Has that horizontal line parallel to where the rim might have been. I would imagine is from the impression of the tilted die. Link is to listing on the bay.

Talking to an ebay seller, they say that tye have normal strikes and these finned out ones. He estimates that maybe only 10 to 15% of them were finned out. But of course, that doesn't hold much value with out any proof.

Oh I don't know Morgan, it's a little bit of a to do lol It is nice to be the first owner of a US Mint error though
Of the 2 MS-69 I see, the ask for the error is about $130.00 more. We'll never know though until it sells.

I'm sure as more get graded, they can figure out a better estimate, hoping it's less then 10%.
What scares me though, is that 3 of us on CCF have 4 between us lol

The ebay sellers I have seen have their Medals Already graded and labels of Finning % States such. Eaglebub7 started this topic 4 days ago.People must of received their medals Months Ago and the labels were made then too.

Seems we are late to the Finning mis aligned dies 2022 U S Marine 2.5 oz Medal Party. People Must have seen this Error Months Ago.... From what I see from the EB Sellers Medals it's hard to see the Error through the slabs... So Exactly what does 30% Finning look like ?

Let's wait and see just how many show up..........
