So when I was comparing the medal finish of the new U.S. Army medal to this medal, I noticed when I pulled the capsule out of the clam shell case, that the capsule appeared to be slightly opened. I figured I must have pulled it, in just the right spot, to cause it to partially open. So I attempted to push it back together, I quickly found, it just wouldn't budge. I tilted the capsule, at just the right angle to see something was off on the rim, thinking what the heck!? Photos are of the obverse rim, at the top of the medal. I had to remove the top half of the capsule to capture the last 3 images. The rise begins at roughly 11K and finishes at roughly 3K. In the last photo, you can see just how high above the capsule this thing protrudes. The only info I can find relating to this error, is of the 2018 S reverse proof dime "high wire rim" error. What are y'alls thoughts on this one? Thanks for looking.

I'm not sure mint errors on medals bring much of a premium. I would consider shipping it back and getting another.

It only goes part way down, not making a complete seal.

Great Mint Issued Medal, Could you get a Crisp photo of the Finning or Extra metal area that's raised from the Side view. As to possibly show the Collar's marks, Vertically, Thanks for Sharing Sweet Medal Too.....

Eaglebulb7, After seeing this post and commenting I decided to check My U S Marines Corps 2.5 Oz Medal.
My examples have Almost the Exact same ARC of what appears to be from the strikes made. I can clearly see the Vertical Stress marks on the Coins Plain, Non Reeded Edges. I also see on the Edge's profile Steps, or Separate Ridges, as If the Press left an Individual Step for Every Strike.... Looking forward to Your Picture Thanks PS, One of My examples was found in the OGP and NOT sealed in the capsule, it will NOT seal either.....

So I went back to look at mine as well, it has the same thing in the same area at about K1 Mine is not as dramatic as yours but it is there. A nice Rim Fin. It even has ejection scratches on the edge.

I also took My Medals out of the capsules, White Glove Treatment. The Planchet on Both medals show signs of Extreme friction around the collars Edges. The Finning or ? is on the Obverse Mainly and Also on the Reverses. One more than the other. I know Others are out there as well, I'd like to compare photos for Die States, That's just me. I hope John and Eaglebub7 are as Excited and Thrilled as I am, ...

Now, my question is this: Is everyone's fin in the same exact area?
Mine starts just above the word 'Marine' on the obverse.
