I agree but am surprised that I don't see sum signs of zinc through that damage somewhere?

to the CCF Normally I would call this PMD - but the grooves are deep enough to penetrate the copper plating and there are no signs of the zinc core. This is either damaged and re-plated (unlikely) or the damage occurred to the zinc core prior to the original plating - also unlikely as the subsequent strike would have evened it out some. So ....

Sounds like everyone agrees it's just damage. But there is confusion as to why the zinc isn't showing. Worth investigating further? I'm getting more curious now that y'all mentioned the zinc thing.

Also why would someone go to the trouble of replaying a Penny? What does that do? I feel like I may have missed something

I would say to save this one, I'm thinking strike through here. at the edges of these 'gouges' I'm not seeing any wave of displaced metal, nor am I seeing and corresponding lump on the reverse.

A Devil horned Lincoln. Interesting. Upon expanding the photo up-close, I think I see a bit of zinc showing through but, it's difficult to tell for sure with all of the luster. I'm beginning to think it is some sort of mint damage prior to the coating being applied. Basically, a Mint oopsie!

Something rounded could not split through the plating. If it were a struck through, then the reverse "CE" would be normal with a full strike. The rims are showing weakness on the reverse. So I'm seeing damage to the coin. Possible wire was used, like a 'E' string from a cut off on a guitar?
