Between 1892 and 1954, eight different coin proposals were vetoed by the then-current President after being passed in the Senate AND House of Representatives. In context, it means that eight of 61 Congressionally-authorized commemorative coin programs - ~13% - were denied by the then-current President. None of the eight vetoes were overturned by Congress.

I've posted about each of these coin programs over the years, and bring them together here as a linked Index. I find them an interesting, though often over-looked, aspect of the classic-era US commemorative coin story. Enjoy!

1. What If? 1930 Gadsden Purchase 75th Anniversary
2. What If? 1934 Stonewall Jackson Birthplace Memorial
3. What If? 1940 Francisco Vasquez De Coronado Expedition
4. What If? 1948 Wisconsin Statehood Centennial
5. What If? 1949 Minnesota Territory Centennial
6. What If? 1953 Louisiana Purchase 150th Anniversary - Circulation Issue
7. What If? 1953 New York City 300th Anniversary - Part I
8. What If? 1954 Northampton, Massachusetts Tercentennial

Outstanding summary @commems. I recall you saying in a prior post that you'll get around to compiling this index - and now it's available!

I likely missed a few of the threads, so will go back and re-vist them all.

Yep! I wanted to get all of the veto stories posted first. With my two-part story on the New York City coin bill veto, the story list is complete! Enjoy!
