I was hoping to see if any Pillars, and of course anyone else, could shed some light on this. The pictures that capture the transition from the cost up to the surfaces of the shot pouch and powder horn there are impressions within this area. I was thinking that a PMD impression could not achieve this without impressing the raised area (i.e., powder horn surface or shot pouch). Simple question - Could this have occurred at the mint? Of if the raised devices are also affected, a drop of acid on the surface may have altered. So probably not a premium for this coin? Report this Post to the Staff

Just to clarify my intentions for starting this thread. It was not to assess value, but rather understand how and what created this. As an engineer, I'm just very curious and love details. Based on the symmetry of the mark, the two circles around the 10 o'clock and the roughly 80 degree bend on the top right there really is no way grease or grit could have been the cause of this.
