Hi again,
Would anyone with a copy of Yeoman's CATALOG OF MODERN WORLD COINS be kind enough to show a comparison pic between Y16.1 and Y16.2?
Thanks

I think you'll find that Yeoman's has just "Y# 16" listed, with no varieties mentioned. At least, that's all that's listed in my extraordinarily battered 12th edition of Yeoman. The "16.1" and "16.2" variety designations were created by and for the Krause catalogues, not Yeoman. Krause simply couldn't be bothered inventing a whole new numbering system for certain countries - including Mewar.; they've recycled the Yeoman numbers (with permission), modifying it as new information about new types and varieties come to hand.

So, according to my Krause, 16.1 is "large characters", and 16.2 is "small characters". It's one of those cases where ideally you'll need to find examples of both, to tell for sure which one you have.

Here's an example of 16.1 on zeno.ru. Here's another. There doesn't seem to be an example of 16.2 in the zeno database, and my Krause doesn't list a value for it; I would assume from the lack of any example pictures, and lack of value, that it's actually rather rare.

Thanks Stephen. That saves me having to search around for a copy of Yeoman's catalogue. On that subject, is it worth having a copy?

Well, with the demise of Krause, Yeoman is now the only world coin catalogue still in print in English. Assuming it is "still in print"; I haven't looked in a couple of years.

Just looking at Amazon just now, I think the most recent edition (14th) dates from 2007. Personally, I'd recommend trying to hunt down an old Krause, rather than a Yeoman.

Or look at it this way: I use my Krause books all the time. I haven't touched my Yeoman for use as an actual reference in 20 years.

Thanks Stephen. I do have the main Krause catalogues but didn't know whether it was worth having Yeoman as an additional reference. If I can grab a cheap copy I may do so but it looks like it does not add much over Krause.
