Looked up cleaning— and I know for a fact these coins have not been touched since at least 1984, if not earlier. Is it possible they were cleaned that long ago and would still be considered cleaned? Ty2020b Pillar of the Community United States 4680 Posts	Posted 03/30/2023 11:50 pm With the large number of obverse scratches and hairlines, I'd say harshly cleaned, low AU Details. No telling when it was cleaned, but could have been anytime after it circulated for a couple years. I would say "later" in its life, as it really hasn't toned at all. Report this Post to the Staff

Prior to about the 1960s-1970s here in the US it was still considered acceptable to clean coins, and fairly common practice. Even the Mint itself (and the Treasury) used to clean coins, including Proof coins.
