And probably a very starter type of question.. but these two are the same mint and year. Weight is diff. Rims are diff. Location of the mintmark is off. Are these all just acceptable variations that are close enough? At how much weight difference do you really start questioning a coin Report this Post to the Staff

The mm were hand punched into the working die so they can be anywhere to the right of the bust and below the date. The acceptable weight is between 2.38g and 2.62g so the one cent is slightly overweight but still acceptable. The cent on the right has a slight misaligned die but still within tolerance. Don't forget, these are produced by the millions at high speed by the mint. Their priority is production, not quality so every coin won't be perfect. Report this Post to the Staff
