Hey all,

I've been starting to work on the extremely difficult pursuit of finding a full set of circulated classic commemorative coins, and following in the footsteps of Nickelsearcher, Not Mint to Be, and Worn Out.

I have eight coins/issues so far:

Columbian
Oregon Trail
Lincoln-Illinois
Monroe Doctrine
Pilgrim
Stone Mountain
Lexington-Concord
U.S. Sesquicentennial

I've posted some of them before, but I thought it'd be fun to share a "family picture" with you all, so here they are! The white blocks on the reverse picture block out the purchase details of each coin.

Accumulating these 8 coins, in (mostly) problem-free, circulated, condition, has taken almost two years. And these are the more "common" coins in the circulated state, so I think this highlights how difficult pursuing this set is.

In that time, there have been only a couple of coins that I wanted that I didn't purchase. One appeared to be a circulated York County, Maine Tercentenary, which is an extraordinarily difficult to find coin in that condition. I decided to pass, because the pictures were awful and there were no returns.

The hunt goes on!

You are off to a fine start on what, for me, was a challenging and very rewarding collecting adventure. It's nice to see your set of 8 together for a family photo.

From your prior threads on the topic I salute the knowledge you have gained on the perseverance needed to complete this set.

Your 8 coins are from what I titled the 'Pre-Depression' era and each is relatively common, relative at least to the later follow-on coins.

I believe you have likely already read it - but commems graciously hosted an epic 2014 thread 'Days of Classic Commemoratives'. There I posted photos and collecting insights on all 50 type coins (both MS and circulated) as well as general insights on pursuing the circulated set such as the 6 'stoppers'. etc.

In case you missed up - buckle up for a great read:

Congrats! Very nice group and a strong start to a set!

nickelsearcher did a great job with the circulated commemorative coins in the "Days of Thread" - it's definitely worth checking out.
