Looking through past posts about Talers I came across one about different numbers of dots in the left beak (as you look at the coin) of the double headed eagle on the reverse. The author said there's at least 3 varieties. I've just emerged from checking all my Talers and found that there's between 10 and 13 dots. The varieties seem to be distributed at random across all the mints I have examples from up to 1936. Then, all of a sudden, we get London, Bombay, Calcutta, Paris, Brussels and possibly Rome 1936-1961 with 13 dots, that's H63 to H66. The ones I've got after H67a then show only 11. Obviously I don't have a dozen of each type to do a fair cross section from but I think I see a pattern there. If anyone else fancies spending a week of evenings down that rabbit hole I'd be delighted to learn what they discover!
