Welcome to the Forum, Captain! It's a bit hard to tell from the photo, but it could possibly be either a strike-through or a delamination. Can you post a close up of that area?

It looks like a lamination peel error. Cool find.

It looks like it happened pre-strike, which is much better than after

I disagree, this appears to be a post strike delamination.

@Oldgrouchyguy, what speaks that this is pre strike? The design elements would still be visible if it was delaminated post strike due to metal density at different points, so I am curious what your thoughts are.

The sharply defined edges of the delamination indicate that it happened post-strike.

Here are just two examples of a strike over a delamination. You can see that Liberty's nose of the OP's coin has the same detail as the original plane device details. Not a Guarantee, but a really good step towards it...

If the OP can say that the nose in the field is level with the high point part struck in the lamination, then that would confirm pre- rather than post-strike lamination. The high point in the lamination may even be higher. Since the lamination is pretty deep in that area, the nose part should be appreciably lower

Here is a coin more attune size-wise with the OP's, and is a very good example of Post-Strike Lamination
