Hi all,

This turned up in a bunch of old coins. On one side there appears to be a bull or lion (at least a 4 legged animal). There is text above it but very worn. Possibly the letters grund? There may have been a date under the animal. On the other side there is a handshake. I do not think it is a coin.

Any ideas appreciated. Ta

Material - most likely copper.
Weight = 17.9g
Diam. = 32mm

Nice detective work Steve! What did you put into the search? I tried combinations of medal, lion, handshake, token, bull etc but couldn't get it!

Not a cheap token if it was in better condition.

I just put in "token lion handshake' on Google and selected images.

I agree having spent some time (unsuccessfully) on this last night. I was too focused on this being a token or medal rather than a coin though and so went down some unproductive rabbit holes.

Yes, I too was hung up on it being a token or medal. I think the idea of a handshake on a coin didn't sit right.

The "clasped hands" motif was also widely used on Conder tokens, typically paired with the "Am I not a man and a brother?" design, and associated with the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade.
