This was in a lot of tokens and world coins that I recently purchased. Unfortunately, I can't find out much about it beyond generalities.
Can someone direct me to the proper resources on encased German stamps?

There doesn't seem to be much useful about these online, but here is one site set up by a French collector (timbres-monnaie, "stamp-money", was in extensive use in France after World War 1): https://www.collectiondemonnaie.net...y/index.html

Here is a page from the site with reference books and auction catalogues: https://www.collectiondemonnaie.net...graphie.html

Pick's Briefmarkengeld I can find for sale online in used condition.

Your coin is here: https://www.collectiondemonnaie.net...r/index.html

The text on the reverse says it was issued by the Bonn Light show company which was probably and entertainment company and the Germany stamp would date this piece from the early 1900's before WWI.
