So I went to my local credit union on 4/21 to acquire $20 in pennies and 9 $80 in quarters. I got home and proceeded to see what if any luck I would encounter with these rolls. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing but its fun goingthrough them just to see what I find.I came across this 1966 no mint penny in my guess would be a AU condition and upon closer inspection I'm seeing some scrapes in the head of Lincoln that is definitely silver then a smaller one on the lapel of his suit blazer and on the letter B in liberty all exposing silver. If you look closely on the one on his head it almost looks as if he has real hair because of the way it draped over the area that is scraped. I searched and searched on the why silver and the only thing I found was the possibility of a dime only this has no signs or characteristics of a dime. Your thoughts please ?     |

I'm not seeing anything unusual, just a very nice-looking (albeit slightly damaged) 1966 cent. By the way, coins from 1966 don't have mintmarks regardless of where they were made. :)

Double check your scale, it should weigh 3.11 grams +/- .13 grams. the silver looking areas is probably toning. I do not think it is AU condition, maybe EX-45? The marks on the head and chest as well as the B are scraps, so PMD. I also see a fingerprint on the obverse. You really should read up on errors and varieties before you search rolls. John1  |

I'm thinking its a common, lightly circulated '66 Memorial cent with some unfortunate damage caused by nearly horizontal hits--especially on the head. |

Thank you CF,IJN1944, DL82.... j1 I'm hoping one day to be a better grader still working on it thank you for your more knowledgeable input it very much appreciated. Ill try and get some better pics in the silver was putting out to much reflection. However it is silver no doubt about it. Thanks again gentlemen ill keep you posted

Not seeing any 'silver' coloring on this coin. It appears to be a normal cent to me.

This is the best I can get for now I can appreciate the fact that many fraudsters try to get on here for whatever their motives are. I woukd like to make it clear that I am not one of them. I truly believe this coin ti be genuine so do any of you recommend I take it to get graded or would the cost to grade it exceed the value of the coin in your professional opinion ? Thank you in advance  |

 Don't get it graded. The cost would far exceed the value. Those just look like scrapes on the coin. Maybe they are just exposing the lighter colored metal underneath, but it doesn't look silver. |

Okay for now I'm not going to have it graded what I would like to add though is I found a 2017 with the same scrape on Lincolns head I'll post a pic of it later and again this one obviously chrome finish because of the zinc you could see the Chrome just as I do in the 1966 I've shown it to a few other people that know nothing about coins and they're saying it's a chrome finish maybe not silver it could be steel I mean I don't know but it's definitely not a copper color it is definitely silver or Chrome I just don't know what to make of it and I'm not trying to challenge you guys or I don't mean to sound disrespectful I really appreciate everybody's input and I'm thankful for you guys being here so please don't take this the wrong way but I know what I'm seeing as do my peers we're all agreement that it is Chrome/silver. I also did not suggest to my peers what I see so that theres suggested influence on their decision. Please forgive my persistence. I like to consider myself to be very selfaware in what I see and hear. I'm going to buy me a coin microscope that will produce a better quality picture in the meantime Thanks again gentlemen you are all very much appreciated

From your photos I see camera glare but, nothing out of the ordinary. Is your coin the same size as a cent or about the size of a dime? There were some cents that were minted on dime size planchet's in 1966. Those however are clad.
There was a 1982 D Lincoln that was found to be bronze and clad and it took 35 years for it to be discovered.
Do you have a local dealer that will do a hands-on inspection for you? I don't think that photos would pic up any difference except the sometimes obvious wear-off of the copper clad that would expose the zinc.
All that said...anything is possible but, don't get your hopes up too high.

Thank you DSKing nope not getting my hopes high. Well trying not to anyway. Its the same size as the Lincoln Memorial penny and weight is that of a copper penny as well. I dont know of any local dealers but I'm sure I can hunt one down found a couple in my area google search. I think that would be the best way. Just coin roll damage exposing some non tarnished copper, spender. Sometimes it is hard to tell but it should be copper. The only other reasons why you would see silver colored is if there was a small pocket of zinc in the cent or a little bit of metal rubbed off of the coin roller machine and was deposited onto your coin, but either of those are highly unlikely. But as I already stated, just a spender.  Edited by Khromtau
