I wonder if anyone can help, when I was young my Grandfather would give us 2 Ikes for birthdays and holidays, and dad would put them in his safe deposit box. I got mine several years back and one of them was wrapped in foil. I thought it was a easter candy wrapper or something I had put on it, so I unwrapped it. But tonight at my brothers he got his out and one of his was wrapped the same. Was it some mint thing or did Grampa do it?

I have read that people (and even coin collectors) used tinfoil in the past to protect coins.

Think tinfoil hat <just kidding>!
