This may have circulated in Western Canada. I have read that there was a great deal of trouble about this : they were brought in, in large quantities, because of the perpetual shortage of small change, but the banks wouldn't accept them, and the (silver standard) Straits Dollar was worth about half of the (gold standard) Canadian dollar.
