Hello all.

This 8 reales appears to have maybe shifted in the collar as the edge design shifts at were the scratch in FERD is noted (See 1st/3rd photo). Is that the appropriate terminology for what I am observing on the edge? Could the scratch also be a result of the same, or is that just post-mint damage? The fifth photo is the opposite side from where the shift on the edge is noted. It also appears the edge was filed down likely for adjustments prior to being placed in the collar. Specs: 38.5mm, 26.86g. Bought from a reputable dealer.

Thanks, everyone.

I have a number of 8 reales with a similar pattern where the edge application tended to waiver and ended up towards one side of the coin edge, leaving some of the coin edge without the designed edge on it. Your coin is a strong example of that happening.

1820 was towards the end of the Royalist mints being in operation in Mexico. Standards were slipping.

Thank you for the information. I will likely send this one to grade but that scratch may slate it for details.
