I'm stuck between VF-30 and VF-35.

I don't mean to be picky, but that's not what I would call a "large obverse Cud". Cud, yes. Large? Not quite.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I'd call it a TPG VF30. Nice Cud! Don't have Grellmans book in front of me, but if remember right, this die state is more scarce than die state A. Shouldn't the reverse rim void from K12-k1 be present though? Thought it was present on all die states. My N-6 is die state A, don't have any with the obverse Cud.

good point about the reverse rim void. Not sure of authenticity now. Sent Bob Grellman an e-mail with pics to see what he says.

Mr. Grellman got back to me and said probably real as Chinese counterfeits are usually uncirculated from what he has seen. Said this coin could be worn down enough on rim to not see the depression.

Guess the definition of "large obverse Cud" has changed over the years.

Thanks for looking into that Jerry! Was wondering about the wear being a culprit as well.

as far as the size of that Cud I thought it was large. Maybe some are bigger but lots are smaller.

Quote: as far as the size of that Cud I thought it was large. Maybe some are bigger but lots are smaller. especially for N-6. Two known die state progressions with Cuds, this being as large as it gets for this one.
