1,000 apologies for the full obv and rev images - I know I need to work on that. I dont think they relate to this post - I added them because I always see they're requested. Here'a a few novice questions. Note - in the upper left hand corner I put a V (variety vista) or W (Wexler) as references to my amateur observations.

1) General question - how do VarietyVista (V V) and Wexler (W) references correlate? I see VV had five DDR varieties and W had only two. Why does W show a dies scratch under UNUM while VV does not? See Q #2 - my coin seems to have properties from both the VV and W variety displays...

2) Please comment on my observations - I believe I have a VV DDR-004, which also looks like W WDDR-003. Also note (and comment?) VV had many pics of EPU, and while I see some similarities in the shape of the E, several of the other pics confuse me. What am I looking for, and does my EPU have them?

3) Is there a site that further assists with "If my observations are correct regarding a found variety, where can I find whether this warrants slabbing the coin?" I see PGGS (e.g.) has varieties 'RPM FS501' for the 1950-d half, does that imply any other variety has minimal impact on value?

NOTE: For the 1950-D DDR VV had a few callouts on the obv side - so I've included those pics as well.
Whew. TIA.

I agree that you have a WDDR-003 which is also a Variety Vista DDR-004. Note that these both show submitted by Tony Russo. If you look closely, both sites are showing different images of the same coin. I have no idea why the two sources give them different designations. As far as EPU, "extra thickness" I've never found to be particularly useful, interesting, or valuable, despite a lot of them in other series being identified only by that. There are some tiny notches in the upper left of EPU letters evident in the VV images, particularly UNUM, which you could look for on your coin. Whether you see them or not matters little, because you have the die scratch from M to the bell and at the clapper. It has to be the same die pair.

Neither NGC nor PCGS appear to designate these, which is not surprising. The excuse I got from NGC a couple years ago was that there has to be "collector interest", which is a chicken-egg problem. Contact ANACS and see if they'll designate it - I bet they would.

It helps to include links to the resources you've already found, for others to assist.

fredm2654,
Just a note: Your pics are very good, what are you using? Always best to remove coin from any holder whenever possible before taking pics.

John1 the partial images are done with a relatively cheap PC microscope program from XploView

http://www.xploview.com/

I cant zoom out to see the whole coin, those photos are simply from a phone without the super fancy photo capabilities.

You are correct, I did all photos while still in a 2x2....
