Hm, this is interesting. Looks like a Struck Through Grease error, but it's strange how it seems to be heavily affecting several letters and completely ignoring several in between.

Also strange to me that the missing letters are not missing just sort of flattened / thicker

@Alex_C that part is normal for a Struck Through Grease error. Grease plugs the highest points in the die leaving only the flatter, wider bases of the devices. It would be far more bizarre (read: impossible) if these letters were actually missing from the die, since the hub transfers the entire design to the die blank, not just one letter at a time.

I would love to see the rest of the coin. This is the strangest Grease Filled Die that I have seen.

Very Funny John! ..but yeah that is strange compared to most others I've seen like this, very selective.

Unless the entire thing was greased filled and somewhere out there are a few coins with 'dropped letters' of 'L, U, I, ., and M' on them.

So far I think John1 or Dearborn has the most plausible explanation. ..LU.I..S ...M modified it or maybe "dropped letters" falling out of a Struck Through Grease dies.

Appears to be a Grease Fill issue on these reverse devices. Not a plus for the coin.
