Never had a coin graded before and I sent off three one being a 1974 d LMC, and I'm getting anxious it's only been 5 days then about 20 more to go before I find out. I am hoping to get a 67+ or 68 by these pictures am I looking for unicorns or am I in the ballpark. I apologize for the picture with coyne still in case did not want to remove it Dad take a chance on damaging but I assure you very very minimal scratching if any

MS68RD is the highest this date has ever graded at PCGS. 67+ shows 7 total at that grade. Here's a 67+ currently up for auction: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...NGC-MS-67-RDIt's probably 2 points better than the piece you have imaged.

Given the pics posted (photographing through lightly scratched/rubbed plastic), it's very difficult to get an accurate sense for the grade. I'm thinking it falls somewhere in the MS61-64 range. Certainly would be a strong album hole filler until better comes along.

BH1964 Okay so I need help then because I compared it to PCGS's which is actually a 67 is the highest they have graded for 74D LMC and this coin has less abrasions than it and the luster of the coin I posted is very high to get a proper picture I had to adjust settings and turn off my flash Here is another picture of it

BH1964 I went to the NGC website and looked up the coin and on the reverse you can't even see the steps that plays a part doesn't it and I don't believe that coin isn't struck near as well as the one I posted along with wear marks in Lincoln's hair

Is that correct? I would spend less on grading fees and more on viewing 66 and 67 pieces in-hand. You will then get a feel for color, luster and strike that play a huge roll in high grade moderns. Coins at ultra-high grades cannot be graded accurately from images. Here's a Pop Report: https://www.PCGS.com/pop/detail/cat...=3&p=MS&pn=2

assessing coins by photo is hard enough. assessing them through a scratched holder with light glare is practically impossible. TPG's are extremely stingy grading any LMC above 66. there are so many little things to consider. even any discoloration in the fields will knock it down and I see that on both sides. since you already sent it off I think you are going to be disappointed with how it comes back. your reverse photo through the holder makes it impossible to see the surfaces through all the scratches. my bet is if the coin comes back at 65RD thats the best you can expect and probably more like MS64RD repost when you get it back and before spending $$ getting a coin graded in the future it would be wise to post here first so you can learn what to look for

for future reference the ticks on the shoulder are die related and very common on LMC's. TPG's know this. also keep in mind it can make difference who grades the coin there and PCGS is much tougher to get the elusive 67 than NGC I'm glad you got a 66. they are selling on ebay for between $7-10 also keep in mind we are grading from a photo of a coin in a holder with light glare. not an easy task to even for a seasoned grader
