Well, Woolies did respond and have basically said that I should take it up with the RAM. I did contact the RAM at the same time and am waiting for their response (if any). I don't expect they will care. They haven't shown much concern about their previous disasters when releasing coins so why bother now?
I am prepared to pay for circulating coins to keep my collection complete but I will not pay scalpers. I wonder if any of these coins will actually make it into circulation? Time will tell.

Unfortunately you got a brush off more than a response. Woolies cannot blame RAM for the fact that users have reported being sold more than 5 coins per transaction by Woolies staff and that some have (apparently) been able to purchase unopened bags from the check-out. Have you also considered that the coins may have been exchanged by an employee of Armaguard (or whoever transports the cash)? Welcome to the merry-go round where you'll continually get fobbed off from one party to another. You'll just end up.... Of course you could be a sleuth and do a bit of detective work yourself. Buy a coin from ebay which will then provide you with the actual name of the seller and suburb. Do some cyber stalking to find out about this person. Are they a woolies employee etc. I would have also suggested contacting your local rag but I just remembered that investigative journalism died some years back.

Hi David. Yes, I did try the newspaper angle with the Vietnam coin release and got nowhere. As you say investigative journalism is history. I doubt the coins on ebay are for sale by RAM or security company staff as I expect while in their care they would be too tightly controlled. I think it is more likely unscrupulous Woolies cashiers taking pockets full of their own $2 coins in and swapping them 1 for 1 for the Vegemite coins. Thus the till totals are not out of whack and no one else is the wiser. If I get a response from RAM I will post again but I think we could all guess what it will be. I have also referred the matter to the ACCC for their consideration. I am not a legal expert but to me it looks like a case of "bait advertising" which is illegal. If Woolies clamp down on their staff siphoning these coins from the tills it might mean those ebay vendors who are already selling the unreleased coins on a promise might have to refund the money. I will watch with interest and keep my fingers crossed to find one of these coins while noodling. I really don't like my chances.

Yes,its a temptation for staff, drama's at the Perth Mint over the years as well, most of which were covered up. There was major fraud back in late 1965 thru to 1966 with Decimal Currency as well, most of which were covered up,it stretched from Mint employees wanting a keepsafe to Bank and Security Staff trying to steal to make money. Understandable considering the enormity of the 1966 release,i read that nearly 10% was allowed for losses during the changeover. Mint releases over the past Decade leak like a sieve, again you have to look at the complete supply chain, from Mint Staff to Couriers and Security firms,Woolworths Staff and Banks.etc. ebay has certainly turned into a monster for petty thieves.

If whole bags are being pilfered upline then what is Woolies receiving instead of bags of Vegemite coins? If no one at Woolies is checking to see if the full consignment of Vegemite coins is being received then it makes Woolies look stupid. The whole situation is sad. I hope the Mint wakes up and makes any future releases more equitable for all collectors rather than continually supporting scalpers. No, I don't hold much hope. Sigh...

It's gone nuts! I see there is now a full roll of apparently uncirculated yellow coins in a Proseegur roll for sale on ebay - 25 uncirculated coins to one individual and wrapped in a roll for re-sale and some of us cannot get a single coin through the till at Woolies. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125945993395Just sold for $232.50 plus $11 postage. At least someone from Woolies did make further contact since my earlier post and asked me to also raise my concerns with RAM (which I have already done) and they also said they are aware of the problems and are asking relevant teams to look into it. Be interesting to see what, if anything, happens. Common denominator in these failed releases is the RAM. WILL THEY LEARN ANYTHING?

Yep, RAM has learnt that there is a very strong demand for these types of releases so will continue as always. No need to change as long as the money keeps rolling in. RAM is about making money, not keeping collectors happy. So long as no money is being stolen from RAM, Prosegur or Woolies and the book balances at the end of the day then no financial laws have been broken. And the more collector's jump up and down, the more social media coverage increases etc will only serve to increase demand. For those who missed out at the till, they still bought something so Woolies is also a winner. If RAM and Woolies were really serious about this, they would have both released a media statement detailing the methods used to prevent this situation happening (i.e. self-vindication) but instead we just get the sound of crickets.

Well done crab eater. I think it depends on which cashier serves you. I don't think the ones in the till are much different from the ones in the mint bags. They've all got some scratches from between the mint hopper and the bag. Unfortunately the 3 Woolies on the north side of Brisbane have been pretty strict on no more than 5 per transaction. Mind you, I've got 11 of the first 2 which is all I need. One set for me and 10 sets for trading. They still had yellows in the till today so not shifting as fast as anticipated?

Interestingly I popped into a Woolies yesterday and asked for some Veggie coins in my change. There were plenty there but the woman only gave me 3 and said they were running low so limiting how many they were handing out.
