Yes it is and a nice one at that.

EDIT: I'll add that there are no clashes listed (Typical or Atypical) for 1980D at Maddieclashes.com. You should consider submitting it.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know there was a site that these are tracked.

What actually happened here? Am I wrong in thinking this is a coin with ghosting?

Excellent die clash.

The two die smashed together without a blank planchet in between them. The upside down Lincoln memorial from tails was imprinted into the face die. From that point forward, the obverse (heads) die was striking pennies with that jail bar pattern.

Great explanation. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate me.

Does this coin carry and monetary value. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that there are none listed yet. Like 5 or 10 dollars?

The value is extremely subjective. A quick search of ebay turned up similar examples in the $15-25 range, but that's what people are asking.

It's a neat coin, I'd probably just keep it myself.

They say they're suspending submissions for at least one year.
I think it's this year down at bottom of their page copyright 2023.

On their site have you noticed 1980 and up there's no D MM listed until up in the 2000s?
