Hello, everyone. This is my first post ever on the site and I'm thrilled to learn from the community. As I'm sure some of you experienced in the beginning of your collecting journey, as a novice I feel like I haven't earned my stripes, so to speak, and don't want to risk coming across as a pest, but I remind myself that we all have to start somewhere, right?

So I found this post on a 1959D Penny and thought I'd share pics as well as my amateur observations in hopes that any anyone with more experience/insight than I can share their thoughts.

As you can see, the coin is in phenomenal condition, and I was surprised to learn that when I uploaded it to the CoinSnap app, they graded it MS69, and said that over the past 30 days a coi. In similar condition has sold from between $300 - $6,000! Honestly, I have a hard time believing this but as I search various sites all over the web, I'm seeing an average asking price for the same coin in not nearly as good condition for $2,000.

Lastly, I have included a comparison pic wlthat includes my coin and a 1977 penny. Is it me or is the "L" in Liberty much closer to the rim, and the D under 1959 much closer to the mint date than other pennies?

If anyone has general comments, advice, questions, PLEASE don't hesitate to reach out. I'm curious to learn how or even if I should proceed from here w/r/t grading the coin for a potential sale.

Thanks so much everyone. I Look forward to hearing g from someone.

As for the L in liberty - in 1959, that was the norm for this design, later on it was redesigned and the L was moved away from the rim.

Welcome Ricksta: Yes you should start your own topic however, since your here now, your coin is a common date, in nice condition and the L is in normal spot for that year, the D mint mark is as well. The mint mark was hand punched until, 1989, thousands were struck in that location. Be very careful where you get your information from, here is the best place. I do not see much value in your coin, maybe someone here will confirm that for you.

Ricksta,

The 59 is not in MS69 condition, nowhere near that. Here is a link on grading: https://www.PCGS.com/photograde/
As already stated, the L near the rim is normal on a 1959. When comparing coins, you need to compare with the same date and mint mark as well as condition.

Thanks so much for your timely replies, folks - much appreciated.

After spending abt 20 hr studying "stuff" since posting, I'm embarrassed for wasting everyone's time, but I can't thank you enough for your insight.

Hopefully the next time you see a post from me it will be of something of actual significance...that said

Over the weekend I found a 1923 Liberty Dollar that has been used as a paperweight for 60+ yr as its encased in some sort of appoxy. Debating on whether to saw it out but will share pics with the group shortly.

Rick
