Another cent for you guys. I'm torn vetween VF and XF. There is quite the large price jump for this particular cent between VF20 and XF40 (6x according to graysheet) so I want to make sure I get it right! Thanks!
I think it is VF-30 noting the moderate wear on Lincoln and the stalk lines being flat and starting to blend. I pulled my photograde book for help reading what was required for the grade.
It's quite battered - eye appeal is just not there.

In PCGS's own words in their intro to circulated grading, eye appeal is only 15% of a circulated coins grade and usually serves only to bump coins around within a particular grade, a.k.a. XF40 vs. XF45, or VF20 vs. VF25. ANA webinars about grading say the same thing. Here are the standards for ANA VF and EF grades. These are what I'm using personally mixing the descriptions along with the photograde app.
Also apologies if this comes off as rude, I'm more just confused because I hear eye appeal mentioned a lot but I thought eye appeal didn't factor in that much for circulated so I'm surprised to hear it mentioned so often from various folks.
VF-20 "Typical" Obverse: Head shows considerable flatness. Nearly all the details still show in hair and on the face. Ear and bow tie are worn but bold. Reverse: Lines in wheat stalks are worn flat and show very few details.
VF-30 "Choice" Obverse: There are small flat spots of wear on cheek and jaw. Hair still shows details. Ear and bow tie are slightly worn but show clearly. Reverse: Lines in wheat stalks are lightly worn but fully detailed.
EF-40 "Typical" Obverse: Wear shows on the hair above ear, on the cheek, and on the jaw. Reverse: High points of the wheat stalks are worn, but each line is clearly defined. Surface: Traces of the mint luster may show.
EF-45 "Choice" Obverse: Slight wear shows on the hair above ear, on the cheek, and on the jaw. Reverse: High points of the wheat stalks are lightly worn, but each line is clearly defined. Surface: Some of the mint luster may show.
I'm calling this one VF details (damaged). I've seen many of these that have so many marks on the devices and fields like this that did not grade straight. if this coin was cleaned you would see every one of them
Quote: Obvious signs of cleaning, still a good coin but would get details at any TPG
It has been soaked in acetone. It's possible the Acetone lifted enough dirt to make it look unevenly toned but it definitely doesn't/didn't look cleaned to me
