macmercury Pillar of the Community United States 5823 Posts	Posted 06/02/2023 7:36 pm I rummage through coins that I bought months back, had some time off finally and didn't get the chance till now due to job related situations. This one caught my eye from a small group of Buffalo nickels, I don't remember there was a 1919 D 2 feather Buffalo nickel in the CherryPickers' Guide, at least in my Fifth Edition, it is outdated, so maybe the forum members can ID better than I can, there is slight lamination on the obverse around the nose area. Also looking at PCGS Photograde, to qualify for a G4 grade, it needed to have 4 digit date, so I think this will grade G3. Report this Post to the Staff

Ty2020b Pillar of the Community United States 4680 Posts	Posted 06/06/2023 10:49 pm Looking at the mintmark position, this looks to be a match for the 2 Feather "Die 1". There are multiple dies for this date 2 feather, 2 that I'm aware of. Considered a 2 feather variety, though there is still a small remnant of the 3rd feather. Yours looks to be a bit earlier in die state. Later die state examples have multiple die cracks. The first one appears just above the brow (see picture below). Die cracks also develop from the nose to rim and lips to rim. If yours does have the start of the crack pictured below, I'd safely call it a 2 feather, albeit not as late die state as some. If the die crack is missing, it may be a polish away from a "true" 2 feather OR just an earlier die state thet I haven't seen yet. Report this Post to the Staff
