Musty New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 06/03/2023 09:29 am A large section is raised up and there are many lined radiating from the tips of the stars towards the edges. Is it worth grading such a thing? I tried to find images of similar issues on these coins, but didn't turn up much. I didn't clean it BTW, so there's some crud on there. kanga Pillar of the Community United States 5825 Posts	Posted 06/03/2023 10:08 am TPGs grade coins based on wear. Variety attributions are included if you pay extra for them. BUT Die cracks (which are present on your coin) are not attributes. Therefore TPGs won't note them on the slab. Die cracks (particularly those on your coin) are often obvious features which are of interest to a few collectors. Those collectors will see them. But they will probably not increase the value of your coin. IMO only submit your coin to a TPG if you want it graded. Edited by kanga 06/03/2023 10:09 am Report this Post to the Staff

Yours is actually RCD-100c-1853-01 showing the "pre-cud" pictured here http://cuds-on-coins.com/1-gold-u-s-retained-cud/ The purpose for having it graded would be to assure authenticity to a buyer. I guess it's more of a visual imperfection that's not unique seeing as other coins would have been minted with the same faulty equipment. Just had to see if it was special.
