I'm not really seeing any MD on this coin, looks normal to me.
It appears like somebody sneezed on the obverse though.
Oh!, and one more thing, Just a bit too many images to start off. They are great images, just a lot of them.

So, I've just learned on a different thread that people would prefer if all the letters were rotated upright. Apologies for not doing that on this thread. Next time I will rotate everything vertical, regardless of the coin and camera orientation from the original picture.

Let's try that. Deleted most of the distracting pics. Where I think there is Machine Doubling is the straight leg of the R (right side), the right side of the I, the post of the P (right side), the post of the B (right side). Most of all along the top of Pluribus. |

Brandmeister, Going to need to work on your photos. What are you using to take pics? Photos need to be in focus with no glare. Crop up to the coin, we do not need to see the background. Properly rotating pics is helpful also. The better the photos you post the better we can help you. Always start out with 4 photos, one full coin pic obverse and one full coin pic reverse as well as one or two close ups where and when needed. If we need more, we will kindly ask. John1  |

it 'could be MD, but what I think is that since we are looking at 3D letters on a flat field, we see the top corner of the letter as it turns down to the fields and then the bottom corner where it flattens out onto the fields. The area in between is just the side of the letters. (think of a large mesa when looking at it from almost directly above). I'll try to draw an example, give me a few to do this.

OK, hope this works - the blue arrow would indicate the very top of the letters. (dark yellow) the red would be the slope down to the fields (bright yellow) the green arrow will be where the letter transitions from the letter to the fields. I think that the reason we see the 2 transitions better than the slope is due to the lighting and how it highlights the transitions.  |

John, I have a little $8 magnifier for my iPad camera. Nothing fancy. I will try to take some better pictures. It's entirely possible that I was photographing glare on the side of the letters, as Dearborn suggests. I will make another attempt at lunchtime.

I thought about a loupe, but the magnifier seemed better because it allows me to take digital pictures to post here.
I am going to set that nickel aside for now. I think the features—real or imagined—are just too small for my current equipment.

I think I see what you are seeing, and to me it looks like minor MD and possibly some minor DDD also. Is this what you are referring to (your photo)?  I think that is pretty typical shelf looking MD with possibly some DDD adding to the effect. Nothing unusual but good to know for future reference. |
