Please review this 1983 D penny with unusual date and mint mark. I can see as many as 3 "8's"? Almost like there is a large 8 and a small 8. Maybe the top of an 8 next to the 3 as noted in WDDO-003 variety? Thoughts? Thanks!!!

Looks like zinc rot to me.

I knew that zinc rot was part of the answer for the 3, but there's more that zinc rot going on for this coin.

What I see is (a mentioned, the zinc rot), Machine Doubling, and split plating.
The D MM looks like it was damaged and squashed down almost flat, as with part of the date too.
