looks like a die crack - some would call it a 'spike head'.

I also agree that it's a crack. I know it's not what we think a " Spike Head " should be coming off the top of the "Head". But a Spike Head has a crack from the rim to any part of the bust. It says a Cud involves the rim and at least a little bit of the field. Do you think this meets one of those descriptions or both?

Rob, I don't know if this would be considered a "die break", which is the rest of the description of a Cud, not a "die crack". I have seen JC list some before that surprised me though. LINK http://cuds-on-coins.com/cuds/

Die crack. A Cud starts at the rim and goes back to the rim. At least that's how I understand it. There is a start and an end. You would think a spike head would just involve the head. But COC lists anything that involves the portrait.

CuJohn, the question in my mind, is when does a crack become a break. Look at the listing (CU-1c-2009-01). This is the only reason I would not totaly rule it out. I personally think the listing I just gave you to check out and Rob's, are both cracks though, but I'm not the professional, just an armchair coin enthusiast at best. I think the height of the break, in relation to the rim may come into play too, in deciding if it's a Cud. LINK http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-ce...s-2000-2008/

This it is a Die Crack as we name. Could be also an mark on the Die from a strike trough? Could be. Cud is not, this always it is versus left or right, because follow the metallic structures.

Makecents, ya that one is confusing. There are some very small Cuds, but that's the first one that only has 1 connection to the rim. At least I can only see one. It looks like the surface has two heights, but I don't know how that is posable without having another end out to the rim. It's like the die bent instead of breaking.
