Sounds to me like Woolworth employees don't care about the "change only" rule. Or were they bribed?

I just go to the service desk and ask for them. I always go in late when it's not busy.
The girls there are usually very helpful.

I've found that they they are fairly strict in this area. The directive is that if you make a purchase and pay cash then you are eligible to randomly receive up to five five Matilda coins in your change. However, in general, most employees are quite accommodating if you are looking for a particular coin(s) and ask politely.
