Quote:Nice ASE, GLB49. But how can you see if it is "burnished"? It's hard to tell by the pictures but the burnished Eagles have a matte finish compared to the shiny finish on the brilliant uncirculated Eagles. The planchets are put in a tumbler with a media that produces the matte finish.

Quote: The matte finish isn't from the dies? When I was researching burnished silver coins I found a few explanations. This is the one I was referring to in my post. "The blanks used, for the Burnished coins, are polished by millions of 6mm little balls before the coin is actually struck. The smoothing of the blank accomplishes a visually brilliant surface with matted features."

Quote:Nice ASE, GLB49. But how can you see if it is "burnished"? If I may: The burnished ASEs have a finish similar to the bullion coins. The difference in the coin is easy to identify by having a mint mark. Bullion ASEs do not. Aside from that the burnished (which the US Mint calls "Uncirculated") are sold directly to the public with a box and COA. The bullion do not have a box or COA from the mint, they are only sold to the authorized purchasers, who then sell them to the public individually, or in the mint roll, or someone will occasionally buy the whole box, but again, not through the US Mint directly. The bullion versions do not even leave the mint in capsules. The other regular version is "proof", which has a mint mark and the easily identifiable mirror finish.

Thank you, jbuck. I guess the PCGS Premier Certified should not be confused with PCC Premier Certified Coins. http://goccf.com/t/44800

I've always loved that velvet bag that only the 2006 had. Very unique, they could have kept doing that.
