Howdy Folks - yes, another one of my ground finds :-) I pulled this one last week and it conserved nicely. I'm high AU (possible UNC) on grade thoughts and would welcome additional comments.

But more importantly, I'd appreaciate any insight into TPGs/Conservation/Details.

One thing that I've never been able to 'grasp' is how conservation may factor into a TPG decision to mark a coin DETAILS/CLEANED. I have watched PCGS vids on DETAILS and they never specifically address conservation efforts.

Does patina play a part? My understanding is Greens/Blues are more associated with 'dirt' coins and I imagine TPG's scoff at dirt coins.

I know there is not a difinitive answer so I guess the question to ask is: Do you have any experience with sending a conserved coin in for grading - results.

And no, do not have any intentions of sending this in. Q is just for my education.

I love how the coin turned out. I am also in the dark as to how they decide if a coin is a details coin after conservation.

DOCC I'm confused. are these the same coin? the reverse detail is completely gone. if it is what the heck did you do to clean that?

regarding conservation. regardless if the coin is conserved or not it would still detail and is is a common coin not worth conserving nor slabbing

Panzaldi - ground find on left before it even saw distilled water, conservation on the right. Reverse detail is actually super strong, lighting is not doing it justice.

But as I stated, I have no intentions of slabbing this coin. It was a general question re: conservation and TPGs reaction to it

I don't believe anyone but an experienced grader at one of the two major TPGs could answer this.
