to the CCF! The letters on the reverse come in a 'Bold' style (type 1) and an 'Elegant' style (type 2.) This coin looks to be a Type 1. The term 'Reversed Cameo' wouldn't be correct for this coin. That would mean that the fields were cameo and the devices were mirror polished. That wasn't offered in 1971.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

There is only one variety (type) for 1971-S. This example is a deep cameo proof, not a reverse proof (no Ike were ever minted with reverse proof).
There are two varieties of 1971-D, the second of which is also known at the Friendly Eagle.
1972 (Philadelphia) has three varieties (types).
1976 has two varieties that apply to all three mints except for the 40% silver issues (which are all variety 1).

Quote: There is only one variety (type) for 1971-S. That is true, however there is one 1971-S "Type 1 Reverse" proof DCAM that apparently exists - only a few out there - that was supposedly a presentation piece for Nixon/others. No way this is one of those! https://www.PCGS.com/auctionprices/...882071871197

Quote: No way this is one of those! Agreed, most would consider that a pattern, which is why I did not want to mention it. Quote: Thank you for your input. You are welcome! And you have a great looking Ike, regardless of anything special!

I've gotta confuse 1 person says. Yes, it's the type one. The other person says no. Is there a picture that I can take to help determine this because it has value? I would like to preserve it and hand it down to my grandchildren. This was a birthday gift I got long time ago collecting dust.

The person who said it was a Type 1 was incorrect. The different between the "Type 1"and "Type 2" reverses on the 1971-S Proof is the same as the difference between the Type 1 and Type 2 reverses for the 1972 Ikes... http://goccf.com/t/383480#3285038As you can see on your photos, your reverse has the "wavy lines" for the Caribbean islands in the image of the earth, making it a Type 2. This is the standard reverse use for the 1971-S Proof Ike. The "Type 1" reserve was standard for the 1971-S Uncirculated Ike. That being said, it is a lovely example. At least deserving for a 2x2 holder for preservation, or something like an Air-tite if you want to give him some extra love.
