Hi, Going through a lot of nickels and came upon this. Is this what I think it is (D/D-I know wishful thinking! lol) since none of the other Ds have something off the side like that below the actual D itself. Marlies Edited by EML Coin Collector 06/27/2023 4:33 pm

Here's the microscope view to show it better.

Please crop and enlarge your images of the MM, and show them right-side up.

Not seeing an RPM. Just circulation flattening and a hit, on the top sherif.
Errers and Varietys.

Zooming in to microscope image doesn't work too well.. Top blob is behind the D.

the D vertical side probably took a hit. But please, moving foward, no scope screen shots - you can see how pixelated they can get.

Dearborn-I agree-the first pic was better. It sucks shrinking a 3000x3000 image down to 500x to upload here since so much detail is lost that way too. John1-Looked at the RPM stuff, but it doesn't look like that either since the rotations don't match at all, but when I look closer, inside the D on the left and on the upper right of the D might be from another D behind it which I guess would be a RPM. Are you saying that the top blob broke off making it now look like it was only behind the top D or that is from the original D in the back? I've seen many examples on the internet from the graded 1942 nickel D/Ds and mine is similar to those to some degree too. So what I can gather is that if the back D is not horizontal then it can only be an RPM since there are no variations? I highlighted a rough outline to where it seems like the D behind it was since the microscope can pick up that much better.

That image is very similar to mine in terms of the inside (SE rpm 003) and is a typical RPM where you can "see" where the background mine mark is. Thanks for your help!

From your image I can not see the bottom. You pixeled to much.
